For the client you can't reach.

You have a client whose husband, or long-term partner, won't come in — and it's holding her work back. That's the specific problem I solve.

I work exclusively with men in long-term relationships, most often married, who are defended, successful, and resistant to conventional therapy framing. My approach pairs a concrete skills model — Relationship Effectiveness Training, taught personally by Dave and grounded in the Thomas Gordon principles I trained in directly — with experiential group work drawn from fifteen years co-facilitating the La Jolla Program alongside Dr. Will Stillwell, a founder of the Center for Studies of the Person.

What I will never do

I will never take your client on as an individual client, under any circumstance. She remains yours, in full, for as long as that's true. My role is strictly to work with her partner — and, later, with the couple as a unit if that's appropriate — in coordination with you, never in competition with you.

How we coordinate

Simply: a conversation, not a protocol. As the referral develops — with your client's permission — we talk, directly, as two clinicians would. I'll never surprise you and I'll never go around you.

Fit

This works best for men roughly 40 to 70, typically in a destabilizing life phase — marital strain, a career change or retirement, an empty nest, a significant loss — who have the means and the motivation to do real work, but no entry point that respects who they are. It also fits divorced fathers repairing a co-parenting relationship, and fathers in blended families navigating relationships with children from both sides of a second marriage.
